Samaritan Hospital – Troy, NY

I have been to Samaritan numerous times the past few months due to a medical condition. They have been stellar each visit. First visit was to ER due to issues while waiting for workers comp. to approve a surgery- they were great at the ER. I had other visits for imaging and pre-op testing. Each time the staff was efficient, kind and professional. I had surgery yesterday. My surgery was delayed a few hours due to surgeon having an emergency surgery. The director even came down to apologize for the delay- I thought wow- where does this ever happen? I had my surgery-and again, everyone was kind and professional. I felt I was always in good hands all times while receiving care at Samaritan Hospital. I have no idea how they have any bad reviews - Samaritan has been by far the best hospital I have ever dealt with in my life. If you need to go to a hospital I recommend Samaritan.

I brought my ex husband in as he was referred by Community Care Urgent Care to get to an ER. While I totally acknowledge the difficulties that medical personnel have gone through for the past year and a half, this has been a nightmare. He was left in the ER waiting room for 5 hours in a wheelchair, too weak to even hold his head up. After asking the fifth employee, she was able to bring him back into the ER department where he has now been for 26 hours. Our daughter was refused entrance to be with him a second time today when she went home to get something to eat. 26 hours and in grave health and his only child denied the right to sit with him. I have never witnessed such disregard and uncaring treatment in a medical facility in my life.

I read reviews here of others. Is Google reviews helping us to improve? Why is the mental health unit billing and receiving cash for what they do to us? Mostly they do nothing but hurt more. They will get other patients involved too. I think the uneducated can do a better job with people but insurance pays people with diplomas. Poor education, organized thinking. I would like compensation for my poorer than others lives. Those who think the past did not exist. People know their behaviors. Do not come or get here. They are not doing anything but receiving google reviews and they act so important they will keep receiving money. No care, family violence is most of my life history. Do not come here for help. Also the problem human got compensated millions and they were not victims like we are. There is secret crime out there. I feel sorry for us.

I had surgery on Monday. EVERYONE was fantastic!! The greeter when I came in, the lady who took my temperature, the registration clerk. Then going into ambulatory, the nurses were fantastic. Everyone was so nice and explained everything to me. I was admitted over night in P501. The nurses, the PCT's, the PA, the lady from the kitchen, all were very nice and professional. I was nervous about my surgery & I was made very comfortable by everyone. Thank you to everyone for making my stay comfortable and for always having a smile on your faces.

Paid a bill and was told everything was taken care of on multiple occasions. I continue to receive bills from these people for what I was told was paid in full. I was told after the payment was processed that I could ignore the bill I had just received and that they processed the payment a couple days after it was sent on two occasions now. Literally told the same thing but months apart. Be careful.

Perspective from the mental health unit: most staff ignored questions, requests for updates, were unresponsive, rude, inconsistent, and completely uninformed. No therapeutic treatment is available on weekends or holidays, and only minimal therapy is offered on weekdays. Doctors and social workers never answer calls, and will take multiple days to address simple treatment plan questions (if they are addressed at all). Nurses are VERY hit-or-miss, occasionally there will be an awesome nurse for a shift who knows what's going on, but most are clueless at best, and unable to even read simple information off a chart (eg. medication names/dosages, doctor/social worker names, meeting times, and meeting notes, etc), if they can even access it. Had to get the NYS Office of Mental Health as well as The Joint Commission involved just to get a straight answer about detailed treatment and discharge planning. Avoid at all costs.

Just like all the other St Peter's Health Partners facilities. Dirty both inside and out. Lack of intelligence and just overall incompetence. Facilities that have been taken over by them that were once well run are now in the same cesspool as all of St Peter's facilities. Stay home and take your chances. They will most likely end with better results.

I would give it 0 stars if I could. Worst hospital ever! You might as well shut down this hospital because even going to the ER was no help when my friend was throwing up for 5 hrs sitting in the waiting room and couldn’t even hold down water. We asked multiple times how long it was gonna be and they had no answer. We ended up leaving since no one was helping. If you were dying they would leave you to die. Go to any hospital than this one. Staff is lazy.

I waited several hours with three blood clots. I was calm pleasant, but nurses and doctors never came in. My IV was so over due, blood was coming out. I was never checked on and I would highly not recommend coming here.

Inpatient or Residential Mental Health Treatment

Inpatient or residential mental health treatment. Inpatient treatment is the most intensive level of treatment, offering 24-hour care in a secure unit of a treatment facility or hospital. Residential treatment is a step down from inpatient treatment. While there is structure and some monitoring to treatment, the big difference between residential and inpatient treatment involves the setting in which it is carried out. While inpatient treatment is typically carried out in a treatment facility or hospital, residential treatment is usually carried out in more of a home-like environment.
