This place took me out of a deep hole. The staff is extremely caring; I met some incredible and uplifting peers. I worked with a psychiatrist daily, as well as having multiple group therapy sessions and activity therapies. I worked through my CPTSD with a clinician and was given medications which altogether freed me from a 2 year long depressive rut. Saved me.

I just recently got back from here and.. The food is horrible. The shower pressure is so high it makes your skin red. As soon as I came home my eczema came back. There were always fights and people crying. The staff doesn't help. The rooms that we stay in are dirty. My doctor never communicated with my family when making medical decisions. I was there for depression. Now i feel way worse. Staff will threaten to make you stay longer. 10 minutes with family. I have a lot of sensory problems too so it was terrible. Always around people, it was loud and if you want quiet you go to "time out" which is a room with writing everywhere and a gym mat. There is never anything to do. You get attached easily to other patients and then they separate you. Im guessing because of covid I couldnt see my parents, the judge. Just nothing outside. I didnt have clothes when I went. And they didn't have anything that fit me. The staff make fake promises. I asked for medicine and things to do and they never do it The food is cold. I felt like i was in prison and i have a whole new set of mental issues after being there. It was traumatic. The only people who wanted to be there were the ones with bad families. Everything is repetitive. No entertainment. Bad living conditions. They even stole one of my personal belongings as they went through it while i was sleep and put it in my room while i was asleep. The lights are too bright. The air is too dry. Even when i came home i felt adapted to the conditions there. I felt as if I jad to keep checking the time when talking to people. I dont feel like I can hug my family cause I'm worried someones gonna tell me I cant. My hair was falling out because they stole my personal belongings and just a comb is useless on my hair. I felt dirty and ashamed. Being there made me hate myself and feel guilty. Never again. Do not send your kids here.

This place would only work for you if you had absolutely no where else to go. I struggle with depression and anxiety and needed professional in-patient treatment. I got sent here because it was the only place we could find with a bed for me. It was 3 hours away from where I lived(which was a red flag in itself), when I got there I had all my stuff taken from me and had to wait in a small room alone for three hours because there was fights and problems in the unit I was going too. I was there voluntarily and the second I was able to contact my mom she was thankfully able to take me home. There was fresh blood on the wall above my bed and mold in the shower. I was there for just a little over 24 hours and saw three girls get sedated, for what I feel was uncalled for, multiple patients being too handsy with each other and the staff just watched, I never once saw my Dr or Therapist even after asking multiple times. The nurses and staff were not comforting to anyone. The food was horrendous and made me very sick after eating. PLEASE PLEASE do not send your kids here, it is not meant to help them overcome their mental issues, just to contain them. This place needs to be shut down or seriously fixed before they should be accepting patients.

They are not bad. A kid I was in timeout with got his tooth busted out on the toilet from a staff restraining him around 2000. He was suspended but that is the main bad thing I can think of. They would sometimes get too rough restraining people. Solid program though other than that.

Was there in 2012, experience wasn't too bad I was unruly and there was quite a few fights while I was there. The nurses back then had their best interests for the patients sometimes. The school system there was good. They needed a better security other then a gate cause I did escape there one time.

This place was unfortunately the only place that had space for my daughter. I warn you now, they do not treat the children, they manage them. That’s all they’re paid to do. When my child moved to a residential facility they had to treat her for PTSD from her time at Poplar. If you have a choice of where you send your loved ones, this shouldn’t be your first choice.

The place was very dirty, and some of the staff would literally sit there and argue with the kids. The food was literally so disgusting, even one of the staff said prison food was better. Even though it wasn't a very clean place, I met really amazing peers. I made some friends that I think will last a very long time. They honestly helped more than the staff did sometimes.

Working staff of Poplar Springs is unprofessional with exception of a few. Place is dirty and loud. It was difficult to sleep since night time staff was ignorant enough as to play music and talk loud all night long. However, therapists were good and some RN nurses were good too. Mia was wonderful and explained my medication level very well. Technical staff was extremely unprofessional. I got yelled at a few times just for asking for some tea. Savona should have explained why tea and coffee is not permitted. Instead she yelled and talked down to me as if I were 5 years old. Food was good however menu was missing for 5 days I was there. I never new they had a lot more to choose from. I give it 3 stars!!!

I'm an adolescent case manager for a CSB and one of my client's was admitted there. I called both numbers provided and allowed them to ring for over a minute without anyone answering. One of those numbers is also listed as being a crisis number! It is extremely important for me to be able to speak with the client's counselors/therapist, I can't do that if no one answers. There isn't even a voicemail to leave a message. I will absolutely not be referring any of my client's parents/legal guardians there.

Honestly, I wouldn’t trust these reviews. I came to this facility for a week. The atmosphere was very calm and collected. The staff in this facility will be nice to you and work with you but only if you are willing to be nice and put in the effort, Which is how it should be. The facility is large, Fit with an outside and a gym. I hear they have a pool but it is unable to be used due to COVID. Overall, The facility had a relaxing atmosphere and the staff went above and beyond to meet my needs. As long as you’re not difficult with them, you won’t have any problems. I completed my treatment with flying colors there and I feel ready to enter the world with an optimistic attitude. The only problem I had with the facility was the food, which was poor. Definitely could use some better food. But overall, I enjoyed myself and got the treatment I needed.

Inpatient or Residential Mental Health Treatment

Inpatient or residential mental health treatment. Inpatient treatment is the most intensive level of treatment, offering 24-hour care in a secure unit of a treatment facility or hospital. Residential treatment is a step down from inpatient treatment. While there is structure and some monitoring to treatment, the big difference between residential and inpatient treatment involves the setting in which it is carried out. While inpatient treatment is typically carried out in a treatment facility or hospital, residential treatment is usually carried out in more of a home-like environment.
