How much does Merakey suck? Let me count the ways. I’m very experienced with receiving mental health care, easily 10+ years of various treatments, facilities, and therapies. And this place sucks -so bad- on nearly every level. Their zoom “groups” are so incompetently led it’s a miracle anyone gets genuine support. The amount of inappropriate or questionable actions I’ve seen from counselors in groups in my short time here is stunning. They made my mental health WORSE. Not to mention the lack of variety. And the disorganization of the zoom links… it’s a clustermuck. So stressful. My individual counselor is… fine. I guess. She’s only done a couple minorly concerning things and seems mostly well meaning. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing at this place. Good luck getting quality psychiatric care. I’d leave messages about getting on a stand by list and they’d call me back and just… tell me when my appointment was? Despite me being very clear in the messages. I was told I’d be meeting w a psych doctor, turns out he’s an NP and treated me ABYSMALLY. I finished that appointment crying. The only good part about this place imo is the Suboxone doctor. He’s really great. My appts w him are always respectful and go smoothly. He clearly pays attention, knows his stuff, considers my wants and needs, and acts accordingly. He’s a great balance of professional and understanding. If they didn’t demand you get your additional support thru them, I might not rate them so bad. But being forced to suffer thru their bumbling subpar care to get appointments from the competent sub doc is only just barely worth it. I was with them back when they were NHS 10 yrs ago and the care was actually pretty decent. Idk what happened when they became Merakey but it was clearly not good.
Guides and intake were manipulative and encouraged me to commit insurance fraud. I am a dependent for tax filing but received repeated assurances I should apply for Medicaid because "it's separate". I assured them I would apply myself, and sure enough the state website tries to have my parents apply once I tell it I'm a dependent. It looks like the disabled are eligible for Medicare after 2 years of being unable to work. They took 2 months to set me up with a therapist after which she no-showed after our first very brief appointment. I was informed a few weeks later she was no longer with the firm. I question the character of a few of their employees, for example Tyler (former guide) lies about past events to match the present situation. For example he told me several times he was contacting the office to set me up with a therapist, however after ~1.5 months I asked him where my therapist was and he said I never asked for one. What?!? I complained to corporate, then received a response from a manager that Merakey would continue to send me what I consider to be marketing calls. I have already received my discharge paperwork. Bunch of clowns.
After doing an intake on Tuesday, here it is Thursday, and have yet to hear anything. I had to go down there, and spoke to someone. He told me what he was going to do, and here it is, 4 hours later, and nothing has been done. No phone call, no meds waiting at my pharmacy, nothing. They told me back in March that they couldn't do phone sessions because Medicare wasn't paying for it. Fine, but when Medicare started to they never told me.
Great therapist, counselors and psychiatrist. They can provide you with a recovery coach who has access to any resources that you need. A great place to do outpatient as well as a great place to get help with your mental health and medication. The staff members at Merakey are amazing and they do whatever they can to help you and the staff members genuinely care about your recovery and mental health.
They moved from 400 N. Broad St. To 2506 N. Broad St. Well 4 phone calls to cancel and reschedule an appointment. Finally had to take a note in explaining my circumstances. No directory phone system for direct messaging. Very irritating! Unprofessional!
