i attended this program and it was horrible. i wouldn't recommend this to anyone. the environment outside is bad with our only fresh air being 15 minutes in a small dead garden. if someone did something bad they'd get on "house freeze" and would not get to go outside and get fresh air. the main staff there, Sam and Monica, were extremely rude for no reason. they had absolutely no patience. the food there gave everyone diarrhea/ constipation on the first week i'm not even joking. the check ins they had was just so you would stop crying. i never felt like half of them truly cared. if someone would have a panic attack at night or start crying they wouldn't do anything. staff would just say to go to bed. half of the therapy groups they had were repetitive and didn't help. if someone was feeling bad they'd get punished and have their points taken away. you were only allowed 2 check ins a day. some staff would yell at clients if they did something wrong. also some staff would make comments on food for example "don't eat that you'll get bloated" which was directed at a client with an eating disorder. also many clients would sexualize others and would have intimate or romantic relationships. i myself had many sexual comments directed at me. the staff there didn't do much to help with that. they put me on a 10 foot with the client making sexual comments and then a day later he went up to me and started touching me, and staff did nothing about it. overall the whole program wasn't that helpful i'd say.
This place changed my life. It was an amazing experience that I am so fortunate to have had. The staff are great at their jobs, and I met my incredible therapist here. If you or someone you know is struggling I strongly recommend this place. It gets better!
I was at the Whittier house from november 2014 thru march 2015. My therapists name was Macy and she had little to no care for me and constantly talked about herself and was always threatening to send me to “colorado” “nevada” “arizona” for absolutely no reason. The staff were abusive and never cared for anyone they were all 30 year olds who were in it for the money and it was obvious that they got paid good money. one of the few times I was restrained I sprained my wrist and they refused to take me to the ER to get it checked out which led to me having problems with that wrist as of now in 2020. And here’s for the big part.. The amount of medication they had put me on made me gain 40 pounds and because of benign put on so much medication I had a seizure while i was taking a shower and I blacked out and it took 20 mins for the staff to find me and even then when I was brought out the staff waited 5 hours to take me to the ER and never notified my parents about it. If you are thinking about sending your child her DONT DO IT.
Sending my daughter here was a horrible decision that I regret badly. We had limited ability to research the facility due to Covid. We could not go inside. The website makes it seem way better then it is. The location is not nice at all, very industrial. I was standing in the parking lot and a disheveled person walked by on the side wake and motioned to me then flashed the palm of his hand to reveal small white packages??? The staff is rude and come across as very uncaring and burnt out. They are probably not treated fair by their employer and don’t want to be there. The kids seem like a burden to them and that they just want to put in their hours and get out of there. My daughter absolutely hated it and began to experience an anxiety attack. She asked her nurse for her medication that is prescribed just for these types of elevated episodes, and the nurse told her to wait for the shift change in 15 minutes, that she was almost off. There is nothing healing about this place do not go there.
