Dallas Behavioral HealthCare Hospital

I took my mom to be evaluated this past Friday. Her pcp recommended inpatient psychiatry. We were there for 5 hours and never even saw the psychiatrist. They didn't seem to want to admit her due to her various other health issues. It's just as well because the place was cold and unwelcoming. All the staff stayed barricaded behind a locked door. Nobody was supervising patients. I had to go to my car for something and when I came back my mom was screaming for me and nobody was there. The only person that had any sort of compassion was the tech on duty. Poor guy got yelled at by patients, had to clean up puke in the hallway and was told to cater to every patients needs while other staff stayed in the locked room. This place really needs an overhaul on their procedures. I have been in a few psychiatric hospitals and none of them were this bad.

Please educate yourself on patient rights before using this facility. It took 3 days to get a patient ID number which is needed to follow up on patients and to speak with the patient. Without a patient ID number it is almost like the patient does not exist. There can be a 6-8 hour delay in patients receiving clothing and toiletries that you bring in. Some items are not received until late the next day. The staff does a great job of keeping their name badges turned around so that you are unable to see their names. If you ask their name you are met with attitude. The facility automatically had a 5 day hold anticipated and that does not include weekends.

I have a family member (My Brother) there right now. He’s been there since Thursday and it’s now Monday. He was supposed to be going in for a 72 hour hold and evaluation for continuing care. My sister-in-law hasn’t heard anything at all about his care or length of stay. I talked to my brother over the phone yesterday and he was calm and doing what he is being instructed to do however he says his meds were increased without them telling him. The facility workers tell us when we call that we need to know his patient ID number to get any information at all and my brother says he has yet to be given a number. I don’t live in the state but I’m so frustrated with this place that I’m booking a flight out to Dallas ASAP and also writing a letter to Texas congressmen about the way they handle things at this facility. There is another review here about them not answering the phones…I tried calling all day yesterday morning and letting the phone ring continuously hoping someone would answer. Finally after two hours I got an answer but still no info because they are asking me for a patient number that has still not been given to my brother yet. That is very unsatisfactory for a place that house people’s loved ones and family members. If I could give this place zero I would but I wanted to write this review today as the 72 hours for my brother was over on YESTERDAY and STILL no word to my sister in law about a plan of action for my brother. They should have a twelve step program in place and therapy sessions and most importantly letting family know a plan of action from the DR.

This place is the worse, you think they are going to help but they don’t care and they don’t communicate with the family on what’s going on. The first day they wanted to start medicine for my daughter and I told them let’s just wait 2-3 days before we start medicine right away then by 3rd day they are trying to discharge her with no future treatment or medication. When we asked to talk to doctor or head manager no one ever called us. I had to keep calling them to find out what’s going. We said we didn’t feel like our daughter was ready to come Home and felt she should stay a few more days but then they said they would report us to cps for abandonment. Plus they opened report with cps because she was admitted now they wanted to open one up because we felt she still needed help. It’s like we couldn’t get no help. If I could rate this place with 0 stars I would. Oh and don’t let me forget I will b reporting them to the state board for hippa violation. We have custody issues going on and told them before she got admitted just to found out they released private info to the other party.

This place was absolutely awful. They did not take care of the patients. If someone throws up, they don’t care. The staff and nurses did not care if someone swears. The rooms and bathrooms were dirty and there was always hair in the food. The place looks nothing like the pictures and the staff don’t treat all of the patients fairly. The beds were like rocks and the blankets felt like sand paper. They let you watch inappropriate things with language and violence. They don’t let you go outside and have any freedom. I do not recommend.

My sister has been there for 7 days and they are not giving us any updates on her treatment or release date but they have no problem harassing us with phone calls about payment. The only thing we know is that she has responded well to therapy but if she is doing well then why wont they release her? We have called several times looking for answers but it seems like they cant be bothered to help. She is a child and we as her family have the right to know what is being done to her and why. UPDATE: a nurse got back to us just to not give us any answers and tell us that the doctor has more important things to do than answer our questions. the lack of respect and professionalism is disgusting.

If you are a parent thinking of sending your kid here, PLEASE. DON'T. I am literally begging. Like this place is awful. It doesn't help in the slightest. This place made me like 10x more suicidal than before. The staff are cruel and abusive. Plz find a different establishment.

Inpatient or residential mental health treatment. Inpatient treatment is the most intensive level of treatment, offering 24-hour care in a secure unit of a treatment facility or hospital. Residential treatment is a step down from inpatient treatment. While there is structure and some monitoring to treatment, the big difference between residential and inpatient treatment involves the setting in which it is carried out. While inpatient treatment is typically carried out in a treatment facility or hospital, residential treatment is usually carried out in more of a home-like environment.
