Cincinnati VA Medical Center

I've been a VHA patient for the past 10 years and I've visited a few VAMC's across the country and the VAMC Cincinnati has been my worst experience. Their automated phone system is an endless loop, once you speak to someone they simply place you in an endless loop of transfers to another person and eventually the call is dropped and you are blessed with the chance to start from the beginning. I've never had so much difficulty obtaining care at a VA facility. Typically it's easy to continue or renew medications but at this facility they require separate referrals to different clinics. At my previous facility the primary care was allowed to prescribe all of my medications without referrals to separate clinics. In addition to the delays built in by the hospital administration, the parking situation here is atrocious. I drove around for 30 minutes trying to find parking and finally returned to my house because there wasn't any parking available in any of the lots or the parking garage, and there wasn't parking available within two blocks of the hospital.

The medical services are great. Administratively, they really need to up their game. The issue is trying to get the service. There are too many shortcomings if you're trying to set up an appointment or get any business done over the phone. Their extensions change constantly and İ always feel like my PAC team is changing with the exception of my primary doctor. İf you're trying to do something as basic as setting up an appointment, you're best off walking in and talking to someone face to face. Otherwise, expect the buck to get passed around to other people and wait for them to drop the ball. My favorite part is when you get a hold of someone after dealing with the automated menu, only for them to forward you back to the main menu so you can come back to them lol. Not sure who they hire to answer the phones (or don't answer) but something has to change. İn summary, if you want to obtain some services, expect a challenge trying to conduct business over the phone. İt's best to probably walk in to set things up. Once you can actually get in, the medical services are fantastic.

I am a ‘traveling veteran’ typically getting my care at the marvelous Seattle VA hospital. I have had 5 star care from the Cincinnati VA orthopedic & dental units while traveling in this area. However Cathy Davis, who runs the Cincinnati traveling vet program, is horrible to deal with. She is rude, doesn’t listen because she is regularly interrupting and by the intemperate tone of her voice hands out attitude. Avoid dealing with this rude person at all costs. I will be in the executive offices first thing Monday morning to deal with her! She needs to be fired.

This is one of the best VA hospitals in the US and it shows. Great place for getting care as a veteran. All my needs are met here including specialists for injuries and mental health issues. Do yourself a favor and get VA health care. It's worth it.

The VA in Cincinnati was far better than any private insurer I've used. While I do have some concerns about specific interactions, the fact is that the overall care is far superior to what I have received outside the VA system

To me, it is merely a place I go for cheap healthcare. To be honest, the doctors don't really listen to you. I prefer to go to providers outside of the VA with my own private insurance so that I can select providers that have time to listen to my needs and actually will address all of those concerns in one visit.

Unbelievably efficiency and true concern for patients. I moved to Cincinnati 8 months ago and decided to use the VA for care, primarily due the being so close to my house. Although I had high expectations for quality service, I can’t underscore enough how much they exceed it. They call in advance to remind me of appointments, see me within minutes of arrival, have a great attitude and are extremely thorough in medical care. Their love of their job and true concern for the Veterans is reflected in exceptional quality of care. I have medical insurance to go elsewhere but will definitely choose to stay with the VA. My primary care doc deserves a special call out, Dr Jovicic. Truly the best.

I have always been treated with respect. At times there are communication issues with my scripts but, in my case they've always followed up with me. I've been to the VA 2 dozen times in the past 1 and 1/2 years and have no complaints.
